![]() Second GradeDiana AstafanTeaching in St. Francis since 1978 I really enjoy teaching the Second Grade curriculum. We do a lot of creative writing. In the fall, we wrote descriptive paragraphs about our colorful scarecrows. We just finished our "Letters to God". They are priceless! In computer lab we type our stories and add pictures or borders. Every night (since the first day of school) each child has a turn taking home a stuffed animal and writing a home-adventure story to share aloud the next day in class. The characters change with the seasons. In the spring we have a school-home project called "Flat Stanley's Adventures". A letter is sent to each family's friend or relative that lives anywhere in the world. Along with this letter is a paper image of Flat Stanley. The friend/relative that receives the project keeps a diary and pictures of Flat Stanley's visit. In the past, we had letters/photos returned from Italy, Alaska, Japan, Switzerland and many from our states. The children learn about weather, geography, family life, etc. They get so excited when the mail arrives. Everyday we learm about respect and making the right choices. I prepare the Second Grade for the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist. ![]() |
